Students, alumni, faculty, staff and friends gathered Friday, Sept. 14 to wish Father Larry well as he departs for his new assignment in Willimantic.

Speakers included Resa McLellan '13, representing the Catholic Community; John Anthony, the College organist and coordinator of music for campus masses; Lee Higdon, the president of the College; and chaplains Aaron Rosenberg and Carolyn Patierno.

On behalf of the Catholic Community, Resa presented Father Larry with a framed photo of one of the Harkness Chapel windows.

From Fr. Washabaugh: An Invitation to the Search

Father Bob Washabaugh, pastor at St. Mary, Star of the Sea in New London, will be the Catholic chaplain at Connecticut College starting with the fall semester.

Father Larry LaPointe, a chaplain since 1979, has been named pastor of Sagrado Corazon de Jesus Parish in Windham. He will continue as pastor of St. Joseph Parish, also in Willimantic, and as director of campus ministry for the Diocese of Norwich.

Father Washabaugh became involved in ministry to the region's growing Spanish-speaking population 25 years ago. St. Mary has about 1,000 households, half of them Spanish-speaking.

Father Washabaugh has been pastor there for 11 years and he enjoys his work.

Mass is Sunday
at 7 p.m.

Father Washabaugh says mass in Harkness Chapel on Sundays at 7.

We gather every Sunday that classes are in session -- there is no mass Nov. 25, the Sunday after Thanksgiving, and the last mass of the semester is Dec. 16.
