Get involved

Do you have a particular talent or interest that you want to put to use on behalf of the Catholic Community?

Designing program booklets? Maintaining or contributing to a web site? Helping to organize a discussion series?

Liturgy itself is an expression of the faith of the community members. Opportunities abound in folk music, traditional music, dance, art, reading and assisting in the distribution of communion.

Whatever your talent, let Father Larry know. We rely on you and encourage your involvement. Some possibilities:

Be a blogger

Post your reflections at Aquarum, the blog of the Catholic Community. Talk with Father Larry or contact Barb Nagy.

Choir

Everyone, no matter their age or musical experience, is welcome to join. Members choose music for each liturgy and lead all singing at mass. Depending on schedules, the choir practices during the week in the Chapel library downstairs.

For more information, e-mail Libby Trainer, Class of 2010. Or talk with any other member of the choir. John Anthony, professor of music and college organist, works closely with the group.

Lectors

Proclaiming the Word of God is central to every liturgy. Father Larry looks for volunteers before each mass.

Hospitality

Greet those who gather for mass and help create an appropriate atmosphere for liturgy.

Sacristans

Help Father Larry get ready for mass – set up the altar, prepare the gifts, assist with vestments, work with eucharistic ministers.

Eucharistic ministers

Help with distribution of communion, offer wine to those who want it, and assist with ashes on Ash Wednesday. Father Larry offers training and installs new ministers periodically.

Sacraments

The sacrament of reconciliation is available on request and at periodic communal celebrations. Father Larry also provides individual spiritual guidance; contact him for an appointment.

If you haven’t been confirmed, you can prepare here and be confirmed locally. And if you’re interested in becoming Catholic, ask about RCIA – the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults.

Weddings and baptisms can also be arranged by talking with Father Larry. Reach him at 860-439-2452 or by e-mail.

Volunteering in the local community

Several members of the Catholic Community volunteer with local groups that work with the homeless, hungry, or others in need.

If you'd like to be part of the effort, e-mail Barb Nagy.
