Our local diocese operates a mission house in Port-au-Prince to support two orphanages, a meal program for children and a medical clinic. For more on how the disaster is affecting the mission, visit the Diocese of Norwich Haitian Ministries' web site.

Visit the Catholic News Service and the National Catholic Reporter for more about the Catholic perspective on the quake.

Heath care reform

Genuine health care reform that protects the life and dignity of all is a moral imperative and a vital national obligation.

That objective is laid out in a July 17 letter from a commitee of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops to all members of the U.S. House and Senate. Read the bishops' letter outlining Catholic priorities.

"I have," he said, "only my great devotion to St. Joseph to guide me."
